BOOK LAUNCHED BY THEIR EXCELLENCIES THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL AND MRS HURLEY
Government House, Yarralumla, 27 June, 2022
I was delighted and honoured that Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley launched her latest book in the Australia Remembers series, Cameron Baird VC, MG – Dedicated, Courageous and Born to Lead at Government House, Yarralumla on 27 June.
In her speech Mrs Hurley said:
“’Australia Remembers: Cameron Baird’ is targeted at children aged 8 to 12 years and introduces them to Australia’s most recent experiences in war, through the life of Cameron. It also captures wonderfully the many qualities that made Cameron the person he was, admired by so many. As a former teacher, I know that this is a book that children will love! It is beautifully written, easy to read, the material is presented in an engaging way, and there is lots of colour and plenty of pictures!
Cameron’s story will, I’m sure, help inspire our children to do their best and follow their dreams.”

“I am very grateful to Big Sky Publishing for the opportunity to share Cameron’s story with a new generation. Cameron’s dedication, leadership and selflessness were evident as a child. The story of his journey to service in the Australian Army, his mateship, commitment, gallantry and valour are inspirational for all generations. Sadly, Cameron’s parents were unable to attend the event owing to illness. Mr Andrew Harrison represented both the family and Cam’s Cause, the veterans’ charity established to honour Cameron’s legacy. A percentage of the proceeds from sales of the book go directly to the charity. The Director of the Australian War Memorial, representatives of the RSL and Australian Defence Force were in attendance.”
